A late-night fire at a mechanical workshop in Lagos has affected 21 exotic cars, while emergency responders prevented the flames from reaching a nearby petrol station.
The incident occurred around 3:05 am on Friday at a workshop along Oladunni Street, Isheri-Idimu, in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The workshop is located beside Eternal Filling Station. Emergency teams arrived shortly after receiving a distress call and worked to contain the blaze.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement.
The agency said its Dolphin Response Team, based at Igando, immediately moved to the location after receiving the emergency alert.
The team joined personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force to tackle the fire.
LASEMA Confirms Damage to 21 Exotic Cars
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said an initial assessment showed that 21 exotic vehicles were affected by the fire.
He added that part of a nearby building also suffered minor damage.
However, emergency responders successfully stopped the flames from spreading to Eternal Filling Station and other surrounding structures.
Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that firefighters had completely extinguished the blaze. They also completed damping-down operations to prevent the fire from restarting.
Fortunately, nobody died or sustained injuries during the incident.
LASEMA Warns Workshop Operators Over Fire Safety
The LASEMA permanent secretary praised the emergency teams for their quick response.
He said their intervention helped prevent a potentially more serious incident, particularly because of the workshop’s proximity to a petrol station.
He also urged residents to take fire prevention seriously.
Oke-Osanyintolu specifically advised mechanical workshop operators to follow safety procedures when handling petrol, chemicals and other inflammable materials.
The agency stressed the importance of proper precautions to prevent similar incidents and protect lives and property.
