Peter Obi Given 48-Hour Ultimatum to Resign from Labour Party

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Gregory Obi, has been issued a 48-hour ultimatum to formally resign his membership from the party.

In an official statement released by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party criticized the formation of a new political coalition, claiming it consists largely of individuals who contributed to Nigeria’s long-standing mismanagement.

“The same desperate politicians who ruined Nigeria are now regrouping in the name of a coalition,” the statement read. “Desperation cannot deliver a new Nigeria.”

The party further alleged that Peter Obi has been holding secret meetings with some Labour Party members, trying to convince them to join him in his new political movement. However, it noted that a number of those approached have refused to defect.

“Labour Party has repeatedly made it clear that we are not part of any coalition. Therefore, any member who aligns with the coalition has 48 hours to resign from the party,” Ifoh stated. “We have no room for double-faced politicians — individuals who claim allegiance to Labour Party during the day, but are with the coalition by night.”

He emphasized that the party stands firmly against dual loyalty, adding that the youth — who make up nearly 70 percent of Nigeria’s population — are eager for a clean break from the past and from the grip of gerontocratic leadership.

He concluded by calling on all loyal party members to remain steadfast and committed to maintaining the party’s structure as the nation prepares for future elections.
