Iwobi and Aina lead Nigerian players returning to Premier League action
Nigerian stars Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina and Semi Ajayi prepare for Premier League action after the international break.

Nigerian footballers are set to return to Premier League action this weekend, with Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina and Semi Ajayi among those facing crucial tests for their respective clubs.

The international break has given players a chance to regroup, but the pressure is back as clubs fight for points in the early stages of the campaign.

Iwobi and Calvin Bassey are expected to feature for Fulham against Ipswich Town, while Aina and Nottingham Forest travel to Crystal Palace. Ajayi, meanwhile, will be hoping to help Hull City bounce back when Everton visit.

Other Nigerians to watch include Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka at Coventry City, Brighton youngsters Femi Azeez and Zadok Yohanna, as well as Brentford defender Benjamin Fredrick.

Iwobi, Bassey Face Important Test With Fulham

Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey face a difficult assignment as Fulham take on Ipswich Town away from home.

Iwobi has started all five league matches this season, recording 411 minutes. However, the midfielder is still waiting for his first goal or assist of the campaign.

Bassey has also featured in every league game, completing 450 minutes. The defender has made 352 passes, with a reported 90 per cent completion rate.

Fulham have struggled for results, collecting just two points from five matches. They sit 19th in the table and need a strong performance to improve their position.

Both Nigerians will be expected to play important roles as Marco Silva’s side seek a turnaround.

Aina Targets Consistency Against Crystal Palace

Ola Aina will aim to help Nottingham Forest secure a positive result when they face Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Nigerian full-back started Forest’s first four league matches, playing 306 minutes. He missed the club’s latest outing against Coventry, according to the report.

Aina is yet to record a goal or assist this season. His defensive work and ability to support attacks could prove valuable as Forest seek greater consistency.

Forest have five points from five matches and occupy 13th place. A victory against Palace would give them an opportunity to climb the standings.

Ajayi Hopes to Help Hull Bounce Back

Semi Ajayi will be looking to strengthen Hull City’s defence when Everton visit on Sunday.

The centre-back has reportedly started all five league matches since Hull returned to the Premier League, playing 423 minutes.

Ajayi also made an impact in front of goal, scoring in Hull’s reported 2-0 opening-day victory over Manchester United.

However, consecutive defeats against Newcastle United and Chelsea have interrupted Hull’s promising start.

The club sit eighth with eight points from five games. Ajayi and his teammates will hope to return to winning ways against Everton.

Awoniyi, Onyeka Face Newcastle With Coventry

Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka are expected to feature when Coventry City meet Newcastle United on Monday night.

Awoniyi has made five league appearances, including one as a substitute. The striker has scored in the League Cup but is still searching for his first Premier League goal this season.

Onyeka has started four of Coventry’s five league matches and played 316 minutes. The midfielder has contributed energy and defensive cover but is yet to register a goal or assist.

Coventry have collected three points and sit 18th in the table. The clash with Newcastle offers both Nigerians another opportunity to help the team improve its form.

Azeez Awaits Brighton Debut as Yohanna Seeks More Minutes

Femi Azeez and Zadok Yohanna have different targets as Brighton prepare to face Sunderland.

Azeez is still waiting for his competitive debut after joining Brighton from Millwall on September 2. A hamstring injury delayed his start at the club.

The winger has reportedly returned to first-team training. However, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler said he was not yet available for selection as he continued his recovery.

Yohanna has already made one Premier League appearance this season, playing 13 minutes.

The 19-year-old joined Brighton from Swedish club AIK during the summer. He reportedly recorded five goals and four assists in 18 league and cup appearances in 2026.

Brighton are third with 10 points from five matches, according to the report. Yohanna will hope to earn more playing time, while Azeez must regain full fitness before making his debut.

Fredrick Continues to Push for Progress at Brentford

Benjamin Fredrick is another Nigerian youngster to watch as Brentford prepare to face Aston Villa away from home on Saturday.

The young defender has featured in Nigeria’s international set-up and is working towards establishing himself in senior club football.

His place in Brentford’s reported 2026/27 squad offers a chance to continue developing in England. However, squad inclusion alone does not guarantee first-team appearances.

Regular involvement with the senior side would be an important step in Fredrick’s development as Brentford resume their league campaign.

With several Nigerian players facing important fixtures, the weekend could provide opportunities to make an impact, strengthen their positions and help their clubs secure valuable points.
