Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has set a new record in Turkey after extending his Iheanacho goal streak to 10 consecutive matches. The Nigerian striker scored twice and provided an assist as Bursaspor defeated Muğlaspor 3-0 on Thursday night.
The match took place at Muğla Atatürk Stadyumu. Iheanacho’s outstanding display helped Bursaspor secure a convincing victory and further cemented his place in the club’s history.
Iheanacho Goal Streak Breaks Turkish Records
According to Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, Iheanacho has surpassed the consecutive scoring records of Turkish football legends Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancaklı.
Oktay scored in nine straight Süper Lig matches for Galatasaray during the 1962–63 season. Sancaklı later matched that achievement while playing for Kocaelispor in the 1995–96 campaign.
Iheanacho had already set a Bursaspor record by scoring in nine consecutive matches before facing Muğlaspor. He surpassed the club’s previous mark of eight straight scoring games, set by Fernandao during the 2014–15 season.
His latest performance took the Iheanacho goal streak to 10 matches, making the achievement even more remarkable.
Iheanacho Scores Twice in Bursaspor Win
The game was goalless at half-time. Iheanacho thought he had opened the scoring with a header in the 48th minute, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside.
The Nigerian forward eventually broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. He finished a pass from Halil Akbunar to give Bursaspor the lead.
Iheanacho struck again in the 73rd minute, finding the net with a left-footed shot from inside the penalty area.
Bursaspor added a third goal in the 83rd minute. Hüseyin Maldar converted an assist from Iheanacho to complete the 3-0 victory.
Iheanacho’s Impressive Numbers This Season
The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker has enjoyed an impressive run since joining Bursaspor.
He has recorded 14 goals and three assists in 10 appearances this season, according to the report.
His consistent scoring has helped him surpass previous club and Turkish league records. The Nigerian international will now look to maintain his form and extend his remarkable run in upcoming matches.
