The Lagos State High Court has restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting or detaining Honda Manufacturing (Nigeria) Limited, Honda Automobile Western Africa Limited and their executives, dealers and business associates over a pending investigation.
The interim order also covers more than 200 other applicants who approached the court over alleged threats to their fundamental rights.
Justice Olukayode Ogunjobi of the Lagos Judicial Division issued the injunction on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, following an application by the applicants’ legal team.
The legal team was led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, alongside Akinwale Irokosu A. Apara and T. Aluko.
The applicants had asked the court to protect their fundamental rights, citing concerns over alleged threats of arrest and detention, repeated invitations for questioning and other actions they claimed could violate their constitutional freedoms.
Why Honda Executives Approached the Court
In their application, the companies, their representatives and other applicants sought protection against actions they believed could affect their personal liberty, freedom of movement and right to privacy.
They specifically requested an order preventing the EFCC, its officers, agents and representatives from arresting, detaining or otherwise restricting their freedom in connection with the investigation.
The applicants also sought protection pending the determination of their substantive suit before the court.
After considering the application, Justice Ogunjobi granted the first prayer in the motion for interim injunction.
The judge held that the order sufficiently covered the applicants’ second to sixth prayers.
The ruling therefore provides interim protection against the specified arrest and detention measures while the substantive case remains pending.
The order concerns the applicants covered by the proceedings and the investigation identified in their application.
