According to her, ICSAN’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and professionalism has played a vital role in fostering economic growth and national development. The outgoing President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Mrs. Funmi Ekundayo, made this known during her valedictory media parley held in Lagos.

She noted that members of the Institute, operating across various sectors of the Nigerian economy, have continued to champion compliance, accountability, and risk management—factors she described as crucial for sustainable progress.

Ekundayo attributed Nigeria’s recent economic growth to the expansion of the services sector, especially in the financial and telecommunications industries.

“Overall, I would say the Nigerian economy is growing steadily, driven by the services sector,” she said. “As a nation, we must intensify efforts to diversify and reduce over-dependence on crude oil exports.”

According to Vanguard reports, the ICSAN president commended recent reforms across all tiers of government, stating that while some sectors are beginning to show positive outcomes, more momentum is needed to achieve broader impact.

She further emphasized the need to institutionalize good corporate governance, noting that sustainable development cannot occur without it.

“Nigeria cannot make real progress without elevating and embedding governance principles across all sectors, especially those prone to inefficiencies and corruption,” she added.

Speaking on ICSAN’s contributions, Ekundayo highlighted the Institute’s role in building human and organizational capacity through education and specialized training.

“As we train individuals, we also support organizations through targeted in-plant trainings. Our programmes focus on topical and relevant issues that are central to economic development,” she said.

She concluded by reaffirming ICSAN’s continued dedication to national growth through its core values of transparency, ethical leadership, and professional excellence.
