The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled September 19, 2026, for five by-elections across Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.
The commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Tunde Oketola, disclosed the date during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
According to Oketola, the five by-elections will involve one federal constituency and four State House of Assembly constituencies.
The federal constituency election will be held in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State.
The remaining four contests will take place across Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.
In Bauchi State, elections will be conducted in the Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies. Delta State will hold a poll in the Udu State Constituency, while voters in Kano State will elect a representative for the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency.
INEC has included all five constituencies in its election schedule for September 19.
The scheduled polls will allow voters in the affected constituencies to elect representatives to fill vacant legislative seats.
The September 19 exercise is also expected to attract the attention of political parties, candidates and other stakeholders as preparations for the elections gather momentum.
INEC’s announcement comes ahead of Nigeria’s broader electoral activities, with political parties expected to intensify preparations for upcoming contests across the country.
