Finally, Davido reacts to record breaking Timeless’ album, hit songs

UPON Davido’s return to the music scene after a brief hiatus occasioned by the death of his beloved 3-year-old son, Ifeanyi, he has become the point of conversations on the music scene while breaking records on various music streaming platforms.
The award-winning Nigerian Afrobeats superstar reveals the inspiration behind his fourth and record-breaking album, ‘Timeless.’

“The title of this record explains itself,” Davido explains. “When I made this record, I had an out of body experience, like it took me to a whole other dimension. The feeling of this record, every time I listen to it… it transports you to another planet.”

In just eight days of release, Davido’s ‘Timeless’ has broken the record for the biggest African album in Apple Music history by first-day streams worldwide, broke the record for the most simultaneous African songs on Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 100, with nine, reached Number Two on Apple Music’s US Albums chart, a new record for an African album and also broke the record for the African album with the most simultaneous Number One entries on Apple Music’s albums chart.

Similarly, Audiomack announced that Davido’s ‘Timeless ‘ had over 12 million streams in its first 24 hours of release, which is more than any other album on Audiomack ever.

In the same vein, Spotify announced that Davido has broken the biggest first day stream on its Nigerian platform. The album garnered 4.91 million streams on its first day of release— surpassing the previous record of 1.36M by Burna Boy’s ‘Love, Damini.’

Davido’s ‘Timeless’ also broke the record for the biggest first-day streams on Boomplay by tallying 7.25 million streams on opening day surpassing the previously set record by Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini” at 3.38 million streams.

On the song, ‘Away,’ Davido believes it’s a classic saying, “This is the classic Davido sound. Any day one Davido fans listening would know this is a classic Davido type sounding record. It is produced by Magicsticks, an amazing producer.”

Speaking on his collaboration with Asake, and Dexter Daps on the songs, ‘No Competition,’ and ‘BOP,’ Davido highlights the essence of the songs.

“A lot of people’s favourite: ‘No Competition’ featuring my brother Asake. Amazing record, I know the ladies are going to love this. Shout out to 1da Banton on the production. One of my personal favourites on the album, I love it. It reminds me of a song that you’re gonna wanna dance on the dancefloor with your lady, with your woman, she’s wearing a nice dress, dressed to impress,” he said.

Calling Dester Daps his brother, Davido also noted that the song ‘BOP’ will be loved by the ladies. “What’s up Jamaica! We got ‘BOP’ featuring Dexta Daps, my brother, all the way from the yard! Me and Dexta have been friends for a couple of years now, amazing human being. I was on his album and now he’s on mine. It’s gonna be amazing, the ladies gon’ really really love this and they’re gonna dance to it. I know that for sure.”
