Federal Government Approves NYSC Allowance Increase to N77,000

Corps Members to Begin Receiving New Allowance in February 2025, Following Budget Passage

by Folawi Titilayo

According to the meeting with the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State on Thursday, Mr. Ahmed confirmed that the federal government had approved an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. This adjustment, which has already been included in the 2025 budget, will take effect as soon as the budget is passed.

“The federal government has already approved the increase in your allowance, and we have the approval in hand. It’s no longer news. What we’re waiting for now is the passage of the budget,” he stated.

“Although January has already ended, once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” he added.

Mr. Ahmed also took the opportunity to advise corps members to avoid any form of misconduct or negative behavior that could affect their future aspirations. He emphasized that diligence, honesty, perseverance, and faith in God are key to achieving success in life.

He further urged the corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities and to integrate quickly after leaving the Orientation Camps.

Additionally, Mr. Ahmed encouraged them to make a positive impact on their host communities by initiating individual or group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that would help improve the living standards of their hosts.

Currently, corps members receive N33,000 per month, and with President Bola Tinubu signing a new minimum wage law in July 2024, it is expected that this increase will extend to NYSC members as well.
