by Salami Azeez

The Edo Government has trained over 100 contractors on the state’s electronic procurement system, as part of the government’s efforts to ensure a transparent and accountable process in its public procurements.

The Head of e-procurement Unit in Edo State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Ezekiel Obazele, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, said the training will equip contractors with the necessary knowledge to bid for contracts from any part of the world.

According to him, “we are conducting a sensitization workshop for contractors who participated in bidding with the ministries of infrastructure, health, education and physical planning.

“The aim of this training is to make them knowledgeable about roles and solutions, so that they can partake in the process without support.”

In his remarks, Mr. Friday Adesuwa Emuze, one of the contractors from the construction sector, said that the training would help his firm enhance its workforce and bring transparency to the state’s procurement process.

Emuze said that the e-procurement training would further help to fast track the period of acquiring a contract and reduce paperwork, thereby tackling cases of manipulation.
