President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that the case concerning the killing of Sylvester Oromoni, a student of Dowen College, Lagos State would be thoroughly investigated with appropriate punishment handed out to those responsible.

This was disclosed in a statement by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, on Thursday.

The Presidency stated that the late Oromoni is one of ”our bright youngsters doing excellently in school, bringing joy to the family. ”

President Buhari stated that if Oromoni lost his life from bullying or cultism, then it must act as a trigger leading to a permanent solution to this recurring problem.

“I share the anger and grief up and down the country following this incident.

”On behalf of my family and I, and the government of the federation, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the Oromoni family, the government and people of Lagos State and give the firm assurance that this incident will be thoroughly investigated and the appropriate punishment meted out to all those who are culpable,” Buhari said.

The Presidency urged the Police to continue the investigation until justice is done.

  • Recall that Oromoni was reported to have died on Wednesday, December 1, after he was assaulted by some cult group members, who he had mentioned their names before his death, according to a Twitter user who claimed to be the deceased’s cousin.
  • The Lagos State Government, on Friday, ordered the indefinite shutdown of Dowen College, pending the outcome of an investigation into the death of the student, Master Sylvester Oromoni (Jnr).
  • A report earlier said that the relative had claimed that Oromoni, who was bullied and beaten by senior students, died after sustaining multiple internal injuries from being tortured and bullied.
  • However, Dowen College, in a press statement that went viral on Wednesday, denied all allegations stating that Oromoni was neither bullied nor beaten but only complained of hip pain after playing football.
  • The Lagos State Police Command revealed yesterday that 3 of the 5 students of the Dowen College, Lekki, who were mentioned by the deceased 12-year old student of the college, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, are currently in police custody and assisting the police with their investigation.
