Delta police arrest two suspected cultists over alleged murder
Police have arrested two suspected cultists over an alleged murder in Delta State.

A suspected cult rivalry in Delta State has taken a deadly turn, with police arresting two men over the alleged murder of a fellow cult member.

The Delta State Police Command said the suspects were arrested in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Warri.

Delta police trace suspects through viral video

Edafe said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested the suspects on Thursday.

Police launched the operation after officers saw a viral video linked to the alleged killing.

The video reportedly showed suspected cultists celebrating the death of another member.

Acting on the information, the police team moved to a suspected hideout in Oghara.

Officers arrested two suspects during the operation.

Police also recovered one battle axe, four cutlasses and one hammer.

Suspected cultists linked to March killing

According to the police, the suspects are connected to the March 24, 2026 killing of a 25-year-old man identified as Godfrey.

The victim was allegedly attacked at Jesse Main Market in Ethiope West LGA.

Edafe said preliminary investigations had uncovered a possible motive behind the alleged attack.

He said one suspect who remains at large was allegedly seeking the top position in the Aro Bagger confraternity.

Police allege that the suspect wanted to eliminate a rival before he could attain the position.

Edafe further alleged that the fleeing suspect worked with the two arrested men and a friend of the victim.

The friend is also reportedly wanted by the police and remains at large.

Police intensify manhunt for fleeing suspects

The Delta State Police Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Edafe added that the two detained suspects are assisting investigators with useful information.

Police are expected to rely on the ongoing investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged cult-related killing.
