President Bola Tinubu has celebrated the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on his 70th birthday, describing him as a loyal, forthright and committed ally.
Tinubu marked Dele Alake’s 70th birthday on October 6 with a tribute highlighting the minister’s decades of journalism, public service and political work.
Tinubu praises Dele Alake at 70
The President said his relationship with Alake spans several decades. He described the minister as someone who is direct and clear about his position on issues.
Tinubu also praised Alake’s commitment to hard work and excellence. He said the minister has maintained a strong focus on delivering results throughout his career.
According to the President, the pursuit of equity and social justice has remained central to Alake’s work.
Dele Alake’s journalism career
Tinubu recalled Alake’s long career in journalism, where he worked as a journalist and editor.
The President said Alake used his position to challenge problems affecting Nigeria. He also praised his role during the years of military rule.
Tinubu described Alake as a journalist who stood against dictatorship and human rights abuses. He said the minister also supported the struggle for the return of democratic rule.
Tinubu recalls Alake’s Lagos service
The President also highlighted Alake’s time as Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
Alake served in the position for eight years under Tinubu when he was governor of Lagos State.
Tinubu said Alake brought creativity and enterprise to government communication. He also credited him with improving information management and political communication.

The President further praised Alake’s performance as Minister of Solid Minerals Development.
Tinubu said Alake has shown the ability to deliver results even when working in unfamiliar areas.

As Alake joins the club of septuagenarians, Tinubu prayed for more years of good health for the minister.
