Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes Arsenal will win the Premier League title again, but he has identified three clubs capable of pushing Mikel Arteta’s side throughout the campaign.
Gerrard named Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool as Arsenal’s main challengers in the 2026/27 title race.
The former England midfielder restated his pre-season prediction after Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The result moved the defending champions three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Gerrard Explains Why Arsenal Could Win the Title
Speaking on The Overlap Daily, Gerrard praised Arsenal’s ability to handle difficult matches and secure important results.
He believes the team’s resilience, unity and squad strength could prove decisive over the 38-game season.
Gerrard said he had not changed his earlier prediction that Arsenal would lift the trophy.
He also suggested that narrow victories against difficult opponents could matter more than impressive wins by larger margins when the season reaches its decisive stage.
Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for the Premier League title last season. They now have the opportunity to defend their crown.
Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool Named as Main Challengers
Despite backing Arsenal, Gerrard expects Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool to remain in the title conversation.
He pointed to the quality of their squads and believes the four clubs could separate themselves from other contenders as the season progresses.
Gerrard also referred to Chelsea’s performance in the second half of their recent match, suggesting the London club has the quality to challenge.
His comments came after Arsenal’s victory at Anfield, which strengthened their position at the top of the table.
Arsenal’s Anfield Victory Strengthens Title Bid
Arsenal’s win over Liverpool provided another example of the resilience Gerrard praised.
The Gunners held on for all three points in a difficult away fixture and moved three points ahead of Manchester City.
Gerrard believes the ability to win matches in different ways could give Arteta’s team an important advantage in the title race.
However, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool also in contention, Arsenal still face a demanding challenge over the remaining fixtures.
