Earlier, in response to the abduction, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun deployed the Intelligence Response Team to assist in securing the release of Olajuni after a distress video surfaced. In the video, the Afenifere Youth leader was seen pleading for financial assistance while being held at gunpoint.
Olajuni had been kidnapped while en route to Abuja for an important meeting. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N100 million, along with two tricycles, for his release. His freedom was finally secured and confirmed by Biodun Aderohunmu, the national secretary of the youth council, on Saturday.
Additionally, the successful rescue operation highlights the tireless efforts of the police in addressing rising insecurity across the region, as well as the urgent need for more comprehensive strategies to combat kidnapping and other forms of violence.
