by Salami Azeez

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has called on the people of the state to take ownership of public infrastructure, particularly roads in their various localities, saying it was the duty of the residents of the state to protect the roads, which he said belonged to them.

Abiodun said this at the inauguration of the one-kilometre Isheri-Olofin Palace Road in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

Abiodun, who was represented by his Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure; Ade Adesanya, noted that his administration would continue to do all it could to make life better for the people of the state.

Abiodun said, “It is your duty to protect the roads as they belong to you.”

He said that his administration would not relent in its effort to rehabilitate some failed sections of the Sango-Ota-Ijoko-Alagbole road.

He added that the road, which was broken into six sections, would be completed in time to ease the movement of goods and services.

He said “Let me charge all our people in the state, especially the residents of this area to take ownership of this road and other projects across the state. You are to protect them as they belong to you.

“On the Sango-Ota-Ijoko-Alagbole road, let me assure you that work is ongoing and will be completed within the specific period.

“What we have done is to break the project into six sections, this is to ensure faster completion of the project. Already, work is ongoing on both sections one and six which is the beginning and the end of the road.

“Also, work will soon begin on section two to five, which are in between Mr Biggs and Ijoko. In addition, a section from Abule-Ekun to Lambe, Jalisco would soon start because the contractor is mobilizing to site.”

On the Lagos-Abeokuta road, Abiodun said his administration would continue to embark on the continuous maintenance of the road   pending its transfer to the state.

He added that his administration would continue to improve its Public-Private Partnership programme to identify available financial options for road projects in the state.

In his remarks, a member representing Ifo/Ewekoro, Ibrahim Isiaka, who facilitated the project, disclosed that the road project which was made possible through the support of the Chairman, House Committee on Works, Hon. Kabir Mohammed, was dedicated to the present administration in the state.

Isiaka, while calling on the people of the state to support the second term ambition of the governor, said that a second term in office would ensure the completion of the ongoing projects as well as the beginning of new ones.

Also, the Olofin of Isheri, Oba Sulaimon Bamgbade, commended the initiator of the project to the area, saying that the project would enhance the economic development of the area.

Oba Bamgbade, while calling on the people of the town to support the second term ambition of Abiodun, declared that the governor had done well within the little resources in his care.
