Yul Edochie Urges President Tinubu to Reinstate Cashless Policy

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yul Edochie has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reintroduce the suspended cashless policy, citing its past success in strengthening the naira and reducing the high cost of living.

In a message shared via his official Instagram page, Edochie wrote: “To my leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR @officialasiwajubat, I humbly suggest you bring back the cashless policy. When it was introduced by the previous administration, it increased the value of the naira tremendously.”

The cashless policy, first implemented under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, was designed to limit excessive cash transactions and promote electronic payment systems. Though controversial at the time, proponents argued that it helped curb inflation and support monetary stability.

Edochie described the initiative as a “powerful tool” that previously contributed to stabilising the economy, and urged the current administration to reconsider its benefits amid ongoing economic challenges.

His remarks come as Nigerians continue to grapple with the effects of inflation, currency depreciation, and the rising cost of goods and services.
