In a recent interview with Capital Xtra in London, South African music sensation and Grammy Award winner, Tyla, opened up about her long-awaited collaboration with Nigerian superstar Wizkid, revealing that their joint track Dynamite was recorded back in 2022—long before her rise to global fame.
“I was very new when I linked up with Wizkid. A lot of people didn’t know me. I didn’t expect him to be down for a session,” she said, expressing gratitude to the Afrobeats icon for believing in her at the early stage of her career.
Tyla went on to describe how much the track meant to her, admitting that she held onto the unreleased demo for years. “I’ve been sitting on the demo for three years, dancing to it every day in my room and hoping one day I’ll get to drop it,” she added.
The song, which blends Amapiano with Afrobeats, sparked excitement online after Tyla teased a snippet on social media. She later confirmed that Wizkid’s contribution to the track was entirely freestyled during their recording session.
Rumours of the collaboration first surfaced when the pair were seen together in London earlier this year. With Tyla now confirming the project, fans are eagerly awaiting the official release of Dynamite, which is expected to be her next single.
The collaboration not only showcases a musical synergy between two of Africa’s finest but also reflects Wizkid’s continued support for emerging voices on the continent.
