Former presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has finally defected from the party to join a coalition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Peter Obi who is a former governor of Anambra state and a presidential aspirant, announced his defection on Tuesday.

Obi was in attendance at an event held at the Nike Lake Resort, Enugu on Tuesday. He promised to ensure that there is no rigging of the 2027 presidential election.

The politician also stated other presidential contestants still have a year chance to verify the schools they attended. This is to prevent back and forth in court.

His words,

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey. We will resist rigging of election by every lawful means in 2027.

“We still have a one-year window for everyone to go and verify the schools they attended. We do not want to return to court again only to be told it is a pre-election matter. The pre-election process should start now.”

Present at the event was other top lawmakers likeSenator Enyinnya Abaribe, Senator Victor Umeh, Senator Gilbert Nnaji, Senator Tony Nwoye, and others.

Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party’s umbrella. He has officially defected to ADC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
