Patrick Doyle Declares: “I Cannot Be Defined by My Ex-Wife”
Veteran Nigerian actor, Patrick Doyle, has firmly dismissed claims that his ex-wife, actress Ireti Doyle, is more popular than he is. Speaking during a recent interview on The Muvmnt Studio, Doyle emphasized that his legacy and accomplishments stand on their own, independent of any personal relationships.
“I can never be defined by her,” Doyle asserted. “My body of work is too solid to be defined by any human being—living or dead.”
Responding to a pointed question from the show’s host about the public perception that his ex-wife might be more recognized, Doyle was quick to clarify his stance. “I’ve been popular since I was 16. How long has she been around?” he asked. “I was a superstar at 16—a champion debater. I debated against Yemi Osinbajo. I’ve been in the spotlight for 45 years, and I’m still here.”
Doyle, a respected broadcaster and actor, also questioned Ireti Doyle’s continued use of his surname following their divorce. “Why is the name Doyle popular?” he asked. “Why didn’t she revert and change her name at the end of the marriage?”
Patrick Doyle and Iretiola Doyle got married in 1999 following the death of Doyle’s first wife to sickle cell anemia. The couple officially confirmed their divorce in 2023.
Doyle’s remarks have sparked conversation on social media, reigniting debates around fame, identity, and legacy in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
