Lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly have thrown their weight behind the Speaker, Adebowale Ogundoyin, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was made during Wednesday’s plenary, indicating that political maneuvering ahead of the next election cycle has already begun in the state.

The Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Fadeyi, who represents Ona Ara Constituency, moved the motion. He revealed that members of the Assembly had agreed to begin mobilising support across Oyo State to advance Ogundoyin’s ambition.

Fadeyi described the Speaker, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party representing Ibarapa East, as a unifying force whose leadership has ensured stability within the legislature. According to him, Ogundoyin has the capacity and experience needed to sustain governance after the current administration.

In his remarks, Majority Leader Sanjo Adedoyin commended the Speaker’s performance, noting that he has surpassed expectations and shown readiness for higher responsibility.

Other lawmakers also expressed confidence in Ogundoyin’s leadership, highlighting his role in fostering progress and cohesion within the Assembly. They pledged to fully support his governorship bid and work toward securing his emergence in 2027.

The endorsement marks one of the earliest political alignments ahead of the race to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde, positioning Ogundoyin as a key contender in the forthcoming election.
