Kate Henshaw Laments State of Nation, Says Nigeria’s 26 Years of Democracy Show No Progress

Veteran Nollywood actress and social activist, Kate Henshaw, has expressed deep disappointment over Nigeria’s democratic journey, declaring that 26 years of uninterrupted civil rule have brought little to no improvement in the lives of ordinary citizens.

Speaking during a special Democracy Day programme on Channels Television, Henshaw said the country’s political progress has not translated into meaningful development or better living conditions for the majority of Nigerians.

“There is nothing to show for 26 years of democracy,” she stated bluntly. “There is no middle class, and we cannot continue to lie to ourselves. Every sector of the economy is in shambles. Everything around us is crumbling, and Nigerians are barely holding on by the skin of their teeth.”

While expressing concern about the deteriorating state of the nation, Henshaw emphasized that there was no cause for celebration if the system fails to meet the basic needs of the people.

Despite her frustration, the actress urged citizens not to lose hope. She called for continued vigilance and accountability from those in power.

“We cannot keep quiet,” she asserted. “There must be justice, equity, and security for the people — for their lives and property. But I still hold on to hope that we will have a country to live in, for our children — something they can build on.”
