In another development, the House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging the Federal Government to immediately implement all approved pension increments and release withheld palliative measures to alleviate the suffering of Nigerian pensioners.

The resolution, sponsored by Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka, noted that President Ahmed Tinubu had approved a N25,000 wage award palliative and an additional N32,000 pension increase for federal pensioners in October 2023.

He noted that many pensioners are yet to receive these benefits, leading to hardship and discontent.

Hon. Isiaka expressed concern that the non-payment of pension increments and withholding of palliative measures undermine constitutional principles and threaten social stability.

The House has therefore urged the Federal Ministries of Finance and Humanitarian and Poverty Reduction, the Accountant General, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to implement the approved pension increments without delay.

The House also urged the Ministry of Labour and Employment and National Pension Commission to conduct a comprehensive audit of pension payments, establish a dedicated task force to monitor pension policy implementation, and address pensioners’ grievances promptly.
