The Federal Government has announced plans to commission two major sections of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in Abia State before the end of 2025 — a milestone expected to significantly boost infrastructure development in the South-East region.

Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, disclosed this during a project inspection visit in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, where he was received by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.

According to Umahi, the Aba–Port Harcourt segment of the expressway is scheduled for inauguration in November 2025, while the Umuahia–Aba stretch, currently under construction by Arab Contractors, is slated for completion and commissioning in December 2025.

The Minister praised Governor Otti for his collaborative and hands-on approach to governance, particularly his efforts in facilitating road construction through the removal of obstructions such as street traders and waste along key corridors.

Describing the governor as “a man with a golden heart,” Umahi noted that Dr. Otti’s willingness to work across political divides sets a shining example for intergovernmental cooperation aimed at accelerating national development.

“These kinds of partnerships are what drive real change. The progress we’re witnessing today is a direct result of such unity,” Umahi stated.

The inspection underscores the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to revitalizing critical infrastructure across Nigeria and ensuring that the South-East benefits from ongoing national development efforts.
