Female Soldier Guns Down Senior Colleague In Adamawa

A female soldier enforcing the curfew imposed by the Adamawa State government has killed a senior colleague at a popular checkpoint in Yola, the state capital.

The tragic moment happened against the backdrop of the curfew imposed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri following the attack on government warehouses by hoodlums, who destroyed and looted several items, including palliatives meant to cushion the suffering occasioned by the Federal Government’s fuel subsidy removal

Reports indicated that the female soldier simply identified as Lance Corporal Nkiru accidentally shot a captain who tried to intervene in her altercation with some civilians at Fire Service Round About in Yola, the state capital.

According to insider sources, the female soldier had insisted that motorists returning home during the curfew hours must turn back and stood her ground even as some of the people identified themselves as workers on essential duties.

One of the sources, a security officer, who spoke about the tragic incident stated thus; “Some people had stopped at the checkpoint and explained themselves as workers on essential duties but the female soldier insisted they must turn back. A captain came forward to intervene. Unfortunately, she had already cocked her rifle, so she just fired and killed him accidentally”.

The victim was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yola, where he was confirmed dead while the suspect was instantly arrested and whisked away by other soldiers on duty.

It was also gathered from some of the sources that the female soldier has been severally accused of being notorious for harassing civilians and cocking her rifle at the slightest provocation.

Meanwhile, during a visit by some reporters to the headquarters of the 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola for confirmation of the incident, the Commander, Brigadier General Muhammad Gambo, sent a message that journalists must seek an appointment in writing before he could grant an interview to anyone seeking information from the Brigade.
