In an interview with Tribune, veteran Nollywood actor and broadcaster Patrick Doyle opened up about his views on fame, materialism, and self-worth, stating that celebrity status holds no value to him.

“I don’t live like a star. I don’t live like a celebrity. That’s all I’m going to tell you. It doesn’t mean anything to me,” Doyle said, emphasizing that his identity is rooted in his royal lineage and not in public validation. “The very nature of my antecedents—on my paternal and maternal side—is royalty. I don’t need any validation from anyone.”

He expressed that he has always had a firm sense of self. “As I said, I’m very arrogant in my head. I know exactly who I am. So, all the other things that make people get excited don’t excite me, because in my head, I’m too much.”

Doyle also spoke on the simplicity of his lifestyle and his rejection of society’s pressure to chase luxury. “The type of car that I drive—if you escort me out and see it—you’ll understand what I mean. It just takes me from point A to point B. I’m not going to kill myself to buy the latest Range Rover.”

He criticized the unhealthy obsession with luxury in the entertainment industry, warning that it can lead people down unethical paths. “That’s when people become unscrupulous—taking on jobs they have no intention of doing, collecting deposits, and disappearing. I don’t need a Louis Vuitton bag. I don’t need a Gucci suit. And I’m not the worst-dressed person in Nigeria either.”
