The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Pastor Peter Pereotubo Akpe as the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
The endorsement came during plenary on Tuesday after lawmakers deliberated on his nomination. Akpe was received at the Assembly complex by enthusiastic supporters who sang and cheered in celebration of his confirmation.
Given his past role as Majority Leader of the House, members extended the parliamentary courtesy of asking him to take a bow and exit the chamber, in keeping with legislative tradition.
Before his elevation, Akpe served as Chief of Staff to Douye Diri. Over the years, he has built a reputation as an experienced administrator and politician.
He earned a PhD in Administration and Planning from the University of Port Harcourt and has held several key public offices, including Head of Administration in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Commissioner in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Service Commission, and Leader of the House.
In addition to his government service, Akpe is a pastor and serves as a part-time lecturer at the Redeemed Christian Bible College, University of Ede.
He is from Ebedebiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area, which is also the hometown of his predecessor.
