Strategic political shift stirs reactions ahead of 2027 elections
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shake-up in the state.
The announcement followed a closed-door meeting on Wednesday at the Government House in Asaba, the state capital. He was formally received by top-ranking APC officials, signaling what many political analysts are calling a strategic realignment with significant implications ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oborevwori, who rose to power on the PDP platform after winning the 2023 gubernatorial election, reportedly made the decision after wide consultations with political stakeholders. According to his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the defection was made in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.
