Nigerian singer popularly known as Spyro, has stirred conversation with bold remarks about gospel artists and the pressures faced by women in the music industry.
In a recent episode of Trending on Hip TV, hosted by Pascal, the self-acclaimed ‘Jesus boy’ claimed that many gospel musicians are primarily in the industry for financial reasons, just like their secular counterparts.
“The people that claim to be gospel artists or gospel ministers are just artists — they are in the business to make money just like us in the Afrobeats industry,” Spyro said.
He further argued that the line between gospel and secular music is often blurred when financial motivations come into play.
Spyro also turned attention to the challenges faced by female artists, highlighting the immense pressure on them to conform to certain industry expectations. He praised singer Tems for maintaining her values while still achieving global success.
“There is a lot of pressure on female artists to do crazy things. Tems is holding it down decently, yet she is one of the biggest female artists in the world right now. She is decent. She has it together.”
He added that Tems should be seen as a role model for young girls.
“Sometimes I’m just like, how is she able to do this? We should put Tems out there for our young ladies to be looking up to as a role model.”
