On Monday, Raye took to Instagram to acknowledge that her recent comments may have offended some Lagos residents, expressing regret over her choice of words. Ushie Uguamaye, a Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, who became a viral sensation last week for criticizing the government, has since apologized for “talking down” on Lagos. She clarified that her intention was never to insult those who call Lagos home, but rather to share her honest observations as a visitor.

Her goal, she explained, was to spark conversations about the country’s worsening economic conditions and to be heard. She wrote, “First and foremost, I want to apologize to the people born and raised in Lagos if my words offended you. I’m truly sorry.”

Uguamaye also shared that she initially planned to release 20 videos addressing various societal issues, hoping that by the 20th day, her message would inspire meaningful dialogue. However, the first video quickly gained traction, resonating with many Nigerians who related to her frustrations, particularly regarding the financial struggles faced by young people in the country.

“I work over 45 hours a week, yet I can’t afford to hang out with my friends every weekend. How many of us can truly afford to do that? You spend an entire week working and can’t even enjoy your weekends,” she expressed. “My goal was to create at least 20 videos to voice my frustrations until I was heard. But fortunately, I didn’t even have to make it to Day 2. On Day 1, I was already joined by many who shared my anger and frustration.”
