In the light of the one-year anniversary of the tragic incident, the House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian Army to release on bail or formally charge the detained members of Okuama Community in Ugheli South of Delta State.
Additionally, the House urged the Nigerian army to rebuild the homes destroyed by their men in the wake of the incident, mandating the committee on Defence to ensure compliance and report to within four weeks for further legislative action
The resolution was prompted by a motion raised by Hon. Francis Waive, who voiced concerns regarding the continuous detention of members of the community despite assurance from the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa to identify the perpetrators of the heinous act.
Hon. Waive highlighted that despite the denial of the affected community’s request for a judicial inquiry into the event, the Nigeria Army failed to reach a conclusion to the investigations conducted after a year has passed.
