Dangote Refinery has revealed that it doesn’t import refined petroleum products into Nigeria, stating that all fuels sold from by the refinery are fully refined locally.
This was revealed by the Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Refinery, Mr David Bird, during a press conference on Wednesday in Lagos. This comes amid allegations of the company importing fuel and refinery’s capacity.
According to Bird the refinery uses intermediate feedstocks to optimise refinery operations which was often mistaken for imported fuel. These include high catalytic sulphur gasoline and straight-run naphtha.
Bird revealed that the Dangote Refinery currently supplies about 45 million litres of petrol on a daily basis to the domestic market.
Bird added that the local refining production of fuels has reduced sulphur and metal content in fuels now consumed in Nigeria, which makes Nigeria’ crude oil comparable with the production in Europe and North America.
His words,
“We do not import refined fuel. Everything sold as petrol, diesel or aviation fuel is refined here in Lekki to Nigerian and international Euro-V standards.
West Africa should no longer be a dumping ground for inferior products. Nigeria deserves and now produces the best.”
