We didn’t receive £4.2m Ibori loot from FG – Delta Govt

by Salami Azeez

The Delta State government has denied receiving the £4.2m Ibori loot as claimed by the Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.

The denial was made by the Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Olisa Ifeajika, who said the state is yet to see such reflect in its account.

It would be recalled that Idris mentioned that Delta State has been refunded the £4.2m Ibori loot recovered from the United Kingdom government while giving an account to the Adejoro Adeogun, reps ad-hoc house committee on how the Federal Government spent the recovered loot from 2002 till date.

Ifeajika made this known at Government House Asaba while reacting to the Accountant General’s claim. He appreciated the willingness of the Federal Government to refund the money to the state and promised that the Delta State government will inform the public whenever the state receives the money.

“I think it would be premature for government to talk about a claim made by the federal accountant-general on air or while speaking with a committee of the House of Representatives. When Delta is duly credited with such payment, then it would be proper for the government to make an official pronouncement on the matter.

“You’d observe that His Excellency, the governor, didn’t say a word or joined issues with anyone when the media were awash with reports that the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Malami, had bluntly said that the federal had received the returned funds but that the federal government would not release the money to Delta.

“In the same way, I think we should all wait until the state government certified that it has indeed received the said money into its treasury.”
