Swift’s journey to regain control of her early work began when Scooter Braun, CEO of Hybe America, acquired Big Machine Records — the label that originally released her first six studio albums. That purchase gave Braun control of Swift’s master recordings, sparking widespread controversy and prompting the singer to begin re-recording her early albums as “Taylor’s Version.”
Now, Swift has confirmed that she has purchased the rights to her catalog from its most recent owner, the private equity firm Shamrock Capital. While she did not disclose the amount paid, the acquisition means Swift finally owns the music that launched her global career.
“I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now,” Swift wrote to fans. “The best things that have ever been mine … finally actually are.”
Shamrock Capital expressed their support in a brief statement, saying, “We are thrilled with this outcome and are so happy for Taylor.”
Swift’s re-recordings have gone beyond standard studio work. Each release of a “Taylor’s Version” album has included previously unreleased “from the vault” tracks, hidden Easter eggs, and new visual elements — enriching the narrative of her past work and deepening fans’ connection to her music.
