Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has dismissed claims that he held a private meeting with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Mecca, Mecca, during the lesser Hajj pilgrimage.

In a statement released on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, the governor described the report as entirely false and misleading. He emphasized that no such meeting occurred and that the claims were fabricated.

According to the statement, Governor Sule neither met Atiku nor had any contact with individuals connected to him throughout his stay in Saudi Arabia. It also noted that the governor was unaware of Atiku’s presence in the country, dismissing reports of a lengthy dinner or any agreement between them.

The statement further highlighted that even Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, reportedly denied knowledge of any such meeting, raising further doubts about the allegation.

The Nasarawa State Government suggested that the report may be part of a deliberate attempt by certain political interests to create tension between the governor and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reaffirming his stance, the government stressed that Sule remains loyal to Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It pointed out that the governor had recently shown his support by backing a motion endorsing Tinubu as the APC’s sole presidential candidate for 2027.

Describing the allegation as a politically motivated attack, the government urged the public to ignore what it called a baseless and deceptive report.
