Six people have been injured following a fire incident at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, according to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
The fire, which occurred on Monday, triggered an immediate emergency response and led to the temporary shutdown of flight operations at the Lagos airfield.
FAAN confirmed that coordinated firefighting and rescue operations were swiftly activated. Emergency teams, including safety personnel, remain on ground to manage containment and recovery efforts.
During the incident, 14 individuals were trapped inside the Control Tower. A crane was deployed to aid the rescue mission, and all affected persons were successfully evacuated without fatalities.
Among those impacted, six individuals — three men and three women — sustained injuries. FAAN stated that all injured persons are currently in stable condition. One of them was transferred to the FAAN Headquarters Hospital for additional medical assessment and remains stable.
As part of precautionary safety measures, authorities have fully evacuated the sixth floor of the terminal building to support ongoing emergency operations and reduce further risks.
Preliminary investigations by the Fire Service suggest the blaze originated from a server room located on the first floor of Terminal 1. Officials added that the fire in the departure hall has been largely contained, with emergency responders continuing close surveillance to prevent reignition or spread to other areas.
In adherence to aviation safety procedures, the airport’s airspace remains temporarily closed. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is working to set up a temporary Control Tower to facilitate the safe resumption of flight activities.
FAAN reiterated that all emergency protocols were promptly implemented and assured the public that it is collaborating with relevant agencies to protect lives, infrastructure, and operational stability.
