Shun corruption – New AGF warns staff

The newly appointed Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs Oluwatoyin Madein, has assumed office and warned staff against corrupt practices.

She spoke Friday in Abuja after she officially took over from the acting Accountant General, Mr Okolieaboh Ezeoke Sylvis.

“Let’s all be guided by the principle of zero tolerance to corruption in discharging our statutory responsibilities so as to diligently redeem the image of this office.

“We are all aware that the Treasury House has suffered some turmoil in the last one year which we know. We will move back to the glorious days and I need your cooperation,” she said.

She however promised to take staff welfare as a priority for them to be above board.

“I crave the support of the staff and past Accountants General to bring the ethics, core values and the dictates of the profession to our job,” she said.

A former Accountant General of the Federation, Dr Ibrahim Dankwambo, said there is work to be done.

“The Treasury must stand very firm. Anything you are looking for is here. The Treasury is good, bad and ugly. Use it very well,” he said.

He also charged her to be good to the staff. “It’s a high-risk job,” he said.

Also speaking, another past Accountant General, Mr. Kayode Naiyeju, said the new AG should live above pecuniary gains.

He also told her to prioritize promotion and posting.
