He explained that the leadership shake-up followed a Deloitte-led review designed to modernize the Secretariat’s structure and enhance its capacity for effective governance support.

Abdullahi noted that Dr. Shittu’s emergence as Director-General represents a strategic move to improve coordination among state governments and strengthen the NGF’s role in shaping policies on security, economy, human capital development, and public communication.

As part of the restructuring, the NGF also confirmed the appointment of other senior officials. Edmund O. Nnaji will serve as Director of Finance and Administration, while Professor Dauda Olalekan Yinusa assumes responsibility for Policy, Strategy and Research. Dr. Ahmad Abdulwahab was named Director of Programmes and Partnerships, and Barr. Chuku Chijioke Chuku takes charge as General Counsel and Head of Energy.

Also appointed were Mrs. Hauwa Haliru-Hassan as Director of Gender Affairs and CEO of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmad Katsina as Senior Security Adviser, and Yunusa Abdullahi as Director of Media and Strategic Communications.

The NGF Secretariat acts as the coordinating platform for Nigeria’s governors, fostering intergovernmental cooperation and providing policy guidance. With the new appointments, the Forum is expected to play a more influential role in driving reforms and strengthening governance at the sub-national level.
