Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has publicly denied allegations connecting him to the ongoing dispute between social media personalities Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and Mitchell Mukoro, popularly called King Mitchy.
The controversy emerged after claims surfaced online suggesting that Seyi Tinubu had an improper or secret relationship with King Mitchy. The allegations were reportedly amplified by VeryDarkMan as part of his criticism of both individuals.
The tension began when King Mitchy, a philanthropist and content creator, announced that she had renovated a run-down school within six days. She presented the achievement as evidence that impactful change can occur quickly when there is genuine commitment. However, some of her remarks were widely perceived as indirect criticism of VeryDarkMan.
In response, VeryDarkMan allegedly accused her of being used to polish the image of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He also reportedly tagged Seyi Tinubu in a separate video, claiming that both he and King Mitchy were threatening his life.
Reacting in a statement posted on Instagram on Saturday, Seyi Tinubu dismissed the claims as false and misleading. He explained that he met King Mitchy only once in a public setting and provided financial support for her non-governmental organisation, just as he has done for many youth-focused initiatives across Nigeria.
According to him, a follow-up meeting had been planned to review the impact of her NGO’s work after the donation, but it did not hold due to health challenges he has recently faced.
Tinubu firmly rejected suggestions of any private dealings, stressing that there was “no private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind.”
He further expressed concern that a dispute he had no involvement in was being used to drag his name into controversy. Tinubu accused VeryDarkMan of deliberately inserting him into the narrative in an attempt to damage his reputation.
He maintained that supporting charitable causes should not be misconstrued as wrongdoing and stated that repeating unverified claims does not make them true.
Declaring that he would not be intimidated, Tinubu said he refuses to entertain what he described as fictional narratives. He noted that he understands the damaging effects of bullying and would not allow himself to be targeted unfairly.
He concluded by reaffirming his dedication to youth development through his foundation, emphasising that philanthropy should not be politicised. Calling for calm and responsible dialogue, Tinubu urged those involved to focus on constructive efforts rather than sensationalism.
