Kebbi Governor Releases Shocking ₦2.2bn for Ex-Councillors

In a move that has stirred reactions across Kebbi State, Governor Nasir Idris has approved the release of ₦2.185 billion as entitlements for former councillors who served between 2004 and 2024. The governor made the announcement during a meeting with members of the Kebbi State Councillors’ Forum at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, where he assured them that the payment process would begin immediately.

Governor Idris directed that the first phase of the disbursement should commence by Friday, while the remaining payments must be completed before the end of July. He emphasized that the gesture was a fulfilment of a longstanding obligation that had been ignored by previous administrations.

The councillors, led by the forum chairman Bello Gulumbe, commended the governor for his responsiveness, describing the intervention as historic. Gulumbe also pledged the group’s full support for the governor’s development agenda, hailing his commitment to justice and fairness.
