JUST IN: Ailing Ondo Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, Dies in Germany
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of Ondo State has been reported dead.
According to reports, Akeredolu died at the age of 67.
The ailing senior lawyer reportedly passed on in a German hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to sources in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the former president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), battled leukemia and prostate cancer for years before his eventual demise.
It would be recalled that the governor returned to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical leave in Germany.
Recently, he went on another medical leave after being directed by President Bola Tinubu to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
His deputy, Aiyedatiwa, has been standing in as acting governor.
Following his return to Nigeria in September, Akeredolu stayed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and tried to govern his state from there, leading to public outrage.
