The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to dismiss three of its staff members for allegedly selling unauthorised access to the examination portal, as part of efforts to tackle examination malpractice ahead of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, said the board had uncovered organised fraud syndicates manipulating the registration process and exploiting candidates.

According to the registrar, two additional staff members in Kaduna and Katsina states are currently under investigation, while disciplinary measures are also being considered against candidates and parents linked to the scheme.

He revealed that more than 100 candidates allegedly paid for illegal assistance to gain access to the examination portal, warning that their registrations may be cancelled pending approval by the Minister of Education.

Professor Oloyede noted that some of the fraud networks deploy advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to impersonate officials and defraud unsuspecting candidates.

The board also raised concerns over the growing number of underage candidates registering for the UTME, disclosing that about 38,000 applicants this year are below the approved age, with some reportedly connected to examination malpractice rings.

JAMB further dismissed claims that it had increased its registration fees, stating that several computer-based test centres and tutorial operators linked to fraudulent activities have already been suspended or arrested.

Security agencies, including the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force, are assisting the board in ongoing investigations.

The registrar warned that paying for examination malpractice is a criminal offence and urged parents and candidates to avoid activities that could jeopardise their academic future.
