In a significant shift within the Nigeria Police Force, newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has officially relieved Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin of his duties as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO). This decision, which was made early Thursday morning, marks a notable personnel change just six months after Hundeyin assumed the position.

The move is part of a broader restructuring effort by the new IGP, following his inauguration just a day earlier by President Bola Tinubu, who named him as the 23rd substantive IGP, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun. While the exact reasons behind Hundeyin’s removal remain unclear, the change aligns with the common practice of a new police chief appointing his preferred team members.

Sources within the Force Headquarters confirmed the development, noting that the atmosphere within the public relations department is currently tense as officers await news of Hundeyin’s successor. Despite his well-regarded professional background and communication skills, high-level changes like this are expected when a new IGP takes charge.

Hundeyin, who hails from Badagry, was appointed to the FPRO role by the previous IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. He brought with him a wealth of academic and professional credentials, including a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan. Hundeyin is also a member of various professional organizations, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA). His career includes roles as the Public Relations Officer for Zone 2 Command in Lagos and international service with the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

As IGP Disu settles into his role, this early personnel change indicates a fast-paced transition period for the Force, with an announcement of a new FPRO expected soon to maintain continuity in the police force’s communications.
