Falz Denies Relationship with Bobrisky, Provides Update on Defamation Lawsuit Against VeryDarkMan

Nigerian rapper and human rights activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has denied claims of having a personal relationship with controversial crossdresser, Bobrisky, clarifying that his only involvement was a compassionate attempt to offer assistance.

Falz made the remarks during an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday evening, where he addressed the ongoing defamation lawsuit he and his father, renowned lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), filed against social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM).

The controversy stems from a phone conversation that VDM allegedly leaked last year, suggesting a connection between Falz and Bobrisky while the latter was in prison. Reacting to the allegations, Falz firmly denied any prior relationship with Bobrisky.

“I never had any relationship with Bobrisky prior to that phone call,” Falz said. “He messaged me on Instagram and said, ‘I’m in this case and I want to speak to you about how you can help.’ Thousands of people send me messages like that—it wasn’t anything exceptional.”

Falz further explained that his interaction was driven purely by compassion, stating:

“In a lot of those cases, I’ll give them an audience—what’s the problem, how can I help? Little did I know. Anyway, as they say, once bitten, twice shy.”

Providing an update on the legal proceedings against VDM, Falz revealed that the case remains in court, with progress being made.

“There’s a substantive suit in which myself and my dad are alleging defamation. Since we filed the case, the other party has not entered a defense. Instead, they filed a preliminary objection claiming the court lacked jurisdiction. The court has now thrown out that objection, meaning they must now enter a defense or the court will proceed to rule.”

Falz declined to comment further on the matter, citing the ongoing nature of the litigation.

The lawsuit is one of several high-profile legal disputes involving social media figures in Nigeria, as public discourse increasingly plays out across digital platforms.
