Nigerian rapper Dremo has shared insights into why he decided to leave Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), pointing to insufficient support and weak internal structure as major factors.
Speaking in a recent interview with Echo Room, Dremo explained that his time at the label felt more like access to a platform rather than being part of a well-organized system that actively nurtured its artists. He admitted that the experience fell short of his expectations, particularly in terms of guidance and backing.
He noted that much of the label’s attention was centered on its founder, leaving other signed acts to independently manage their careers. According to him, this imbalance made it difficult for artists under the label to fully thrive.
Dremo also highlighted a lack of collaboration among label mates. Despite having several talented artists on the roster, he said there was little effort to build a unified sound or work together. He cited his inability to collaborate with fellow rapper Idowest as an example, explaining that everyone was focused on their own individual journeys.
Reflecting on his experience, Dremo stated that the situation shaped his perspective on the music business. Ultimately, he chose independence, valuing creative freedom and control over being tied to a label structure.
Since his departure, the rapper has continued to grow artistically. His recent “Man-to-Man” freestyle series has drawn attention, sparking renewed discussions about his lyrical ability and consistency.
