Davido and Burna Boy lead this year’s nominations with five each, featuring in major categories such as Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Collaboration. Fast-rising street-pop artiste Shallipopi follows closely with four nominations, including Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year.

Ayra Starr, signed to Mavin Records, secured two nominations, one of which places her in the highly competitive Artiste of the Year category alongside her Nigerian counterparts and Morocco’s El Grande Toto. Afrobeats sensation Rema also received three nominations, further strengthening Nigeria’s presence in the pan-African awards.

Organisers announced that global public voting will open on September 10, giving fans worldwide the opportunity to decide who emerges as winners in the different categories.

Founded in 2014, AFRIMA was established in partnership with the African Union to celebrate excellence in African music and showcase the continent’s creative talent to global audiences. Over the years, it has grown into one of Africa’s most respected music awards, with past winners including Wizkid, Angelique Kidjo, Diamond Platnumz, Davido and Burna Boy. The event has become a platform not only for recognising artistes but also for promoting African unity and cultural heritage through music.

With Nigeria hosting this year’s edition, expectations are high for a thrilling celebration of Afrobeats and African culture, as the continent’s brightest stars gather to compete for top honours.
