Davido, Bright Chimezie Join Sony Music Publishing West Africa
Afrobeats superstar Davido and legendary highlife icon Bright Chimezie have officially joined Sony Music Publishing (SMP) West Africa.
The announcement was made over the weekend via a series of posts on SMP West Africa’s official Instagram page. In a statement, the company said:
“SMP is honored to announce the introduction of the legendary and extraordinary Bright Chimezie into the family. The creator of the Zigma sound has joined the Sony Music Publishing (SMP) West Africa.”
This move marks a significant moment for both artists and the label. Chimezie’s inclusion follows his recent meeting with Davido in May, during which the Afrobeats singer publicly acknowledged the influence of Chimezie’s music on his own creative work—particularly citing Chimezie’s album as an inspiration behind his hit track “With You”, which features Omah Lay.
The news also comes shortly after Davido’s former signee, Mayorkun, revealed that Davido played a pivotal role in helping him secure his own deal with Sony Music.
With the addition of these two influential figures, Sony Music Publishing West Africa continues to expand its roster of culturally significant and globally recognized artists.
