The commonwealth games Nigeria under the auspices of the Commonwealth Sport Foundation, will organise the “Commonwealth Keep Fit” programme on Saturday, April, 17 at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, the organisers says.
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Public Relation Officer, Phemmy Adetula in a statement in Lagos also disclosed that NOC will use the occasion to sensitise athletes and officials on sports medicine
“The Commonwealth Games Federation is the organisation responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games.
“It has mandate for the delivering on the vision of the Commonwealth Sports movement to build peaceful, sustainable and prosperous communities globally by inspiring Commonwealth.
“The objective of the programme is to raise awareness, increase knowledge, change attitudes and to address key challenges facing our community.
“In line with Government restriction order as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic the programme will be organised on a low key basis in order to reduce the number of participants,” he said.
Adetula noted that only those that had been invited will participate in the programme which would start at 8.30 am.
“The Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games NIGERIA, Olabanji Oladapo will flag off the programme.
“In the same vein, the Nigeria Olympic Committee through its Medical and Scientific Commission presented Medical handbooks.
The book titled
Tips to Optimal Athletes’ Performance” will be shared among Nigerian Athletes and their Officials at the just concluded, National Sports Festival Edo 2020.
“The aim is to educate athletes and officials on how to optimize protection of athletes’ health, promotion of clean athletes and to support them on and off the field of play.
“Protecting clean athletes and keeping sports fair are top priorities of the International Olympic Committee,” he said.
Adetula concluded saying that the IOC is committed to fighting all forms of cheating that threaten the integrity, essence of sports and so the NOC will not be left out in promoting this course.
