Prolific Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has revealed the cause of his son’s death. She stated her son died as a result of medical negligence.

According to Chimamanda her son, Nnamdi Nkanu passed due to failures at a Euracare Hospital on 6th January.
She stated that her son developed a mild illness during her family’ to Lagos for Christmas. His condition worsened and was admitted to Atlantis Hospital, where he was to be transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, United States.
According to Adichie The US hospital requested diagnostic tests, including an MRI scan and a lumbar puncture. Atlantis Hospital referred her family to Euracare Hospital to carry out the tests.
On 6th January, her son was admitted at Euracare Hospital for the procedures. Ms Adichie said she was waiting outside the operating theatre. Few hours later she was informed that her son hasbecome unresponsive due to an anaesthetic drug administered to him. Ms Adichie said her son eventually died some hours later.
Her words,
“We brought in a child who was unwell but stable and scheduled to travel the next day,” she said. “We came for routine procedures. Instead, our beautiful little boy was gone”.
