Al-Mustapha Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition Under SDP
Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Al-Mustapha, a retired military officer, revealed that he would be running on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). His announcement signals a renewed ambition to take on a leadership role in Nigeria’s democratic space after years of political activity following his military career.
This is not Al-Mustapha’s first shot at the presidency. He was the presidential candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2019 elections, though he later distanced himself from the party. His choice of the SDP this time around indicates a strategic move as the political landscape begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 polls.
